Great news! It's a shame that any of Loomis's books are out of print. They're classics.

I've ordered them! - even tho' I already had scans of them. I like 'The Eye of the Artist" too!

I love all of Loomis' books, the best instruction books I have come in touch with. Checking the number of pages in the description, it looks like this is the real, unabridged edition. Luckily, as some of Loomis' books have been badly butchered in the past.

Brilliant book! I resorted to getting an old hard copy a few years ago. My friend recently picked this new edition up and the reproductions are great. It's really nice to be able to hold a copy of his work in hand that's in good condition!

Oh! Just to add that in the back of the book it also mentions 'Drawing the Head and Hands', 'Creative Illustration' and 'Fun with a Pencil' are also going to be released as upcoming new editions. :)

What is the best book for sketching people from life?

Andrew: The best book that I ever ran across that focuses on drawing from the live model was James McMullen's High-Focus Drawing. It could be out of print, but should be possible to find used (or through a library).

Don't know if anyone will see this question, since this article is a bit older, but: I've ordered this from Amazon (gladly) but was surprised to see the note that it "usually ships in from 1 to 3 months" (sounds almost like they're printing these on demand). Has anyone had experience with a recent order from Amazon of this title? Did it really take that long?

Tom, not sure on this title, but usually it means they sold out the first printing and they're waiting for resupply.

Thanks James. That makes sense, and it's actually encouraging news - that this classic may have sold out the first printing. The printed book is not dead!!
